Materials Used:
Connecting rod is extremely important. It undertakes impact loading circularly, which requires the parts must have enough strength and toughness.On this base, using alloy carbon steel is necessary.
Key Processing:
Die Forgingis to be arranged as first step to make cross grains flow along length-ways. During service, the parts mainly bear length-way loads, and forging can build up the structure that extremely suitable for this loading.
Quenching-Tempering is required to achieve the strength and toughness. Metal tempering brittleness must be fully considered during heat-treatment. Otherwise, micro-cracks may happen along grain boundary which becomes the failure source during service.
Micro-Crack Detection, must be done on every single parts. This is to ensure the basic safety when clients using our products.
Accurately Weighting & Regulating to each part is also required. Because the connecting rods are fitted on crankshaft, during engine working, the fairly high revolution speed of crankshaft will make the inertia differences change into vibrations of the whole systems. Now, you can imagine the possible harm caused.
Geometry Precisions and Surface Finishing are specified clear and enough on each drawing. The importance of achieving and inspection processes and equipments need no additional mentioned. These are also the basic requirements to machining enterprises. |
Special Reminds Regarding Connecting Rods:
As the connecting rod is made up out of 2 parts: the proper and the cover, the total unit is fixed by 2 bolts which undertake all the loading and its changes. So, the bolts must be all crack detected. The threads of the bolts should be rolled out, instead of cutting. The materials of the bolts should be alloyed and be quench-tempered before micro-crack detection.
Once a connecting rod is replaced, new bolts must be applied. Because fatigue has happened on the previous bolts.
With engines that have two connecting rods side-by-side, it is necessary to place a feel gauge between the two rods to take up any space before torqueing. This will eliminate any flat spots that can occur when torque bolts.
